Act 1, Scene 2: Who's the Captain?

Setting: Bridge of Freighter GMF-ACULF - ("Darwin") - a no-frills working environment with indirect lighting, several desks with chairs, computer screens, technical instruments, and a few sexy space ship posters the crew have put on some free spots on the wall to personalize their workspace. Everything looks well used, but ergonomically designed. There is a Star Trek-style captain's chair in the middle with a communications console attached to its armrest. Dead crew members are occupying the stations. There are no chickens in this scene.
Stage setup: -
Backdrop: 3 panels show the bridge of freighter "Darwin".
On 2nd rail: Navigator's seat in front of a terminal [6], Captain's chair [4], Engineer's seat in front of a terminal [2] (Nex). All seats are played from first level.
On playrail: Main terminal [4]

Trent: "This is the bridge of the ship. Happy now?"

Sorin: "Hell yeah! Let's see what we got here."

%ACT% Sorin rushes to the main terminal in [4], Lyra stays in [6], Trent walks to the dead navigator in [6] on second level.

Sorin: "This ship is a Space-X Rhino Mark 4"

Sorin: "Owner is the Extraplanetary Resources Group. Who else."

Lyra: "Could you fly it?"

Sorin: "Totally. I mean, I don't have a type rating for this model, but who gives."

Sorin: "Oh. This is weird."

Lyra: "What is weird?"

Sorin: "The ship's on standby, everything's properly shut down. The main reactor is off, critical systems are on backup power. No sign of an emergency."

Lyra: "Can we turn it back on?"

%ACT% Sorin hacks on the keyboard

%SND% SND-1204 - Keyboard 4 + Beep Boop

Sorin: "Nope. The controls are locked."

Lyra: "Computer, this is the captain speaking. Unlock the controls!"

%SND% PRE-1200 - Computer: "Complying. Correction: Unable to comply. System unlock requires a flight crew level override key card."

Lyra: "Well, it was worth a try I guess."

Trent: "Well, the flight crew is still here. I'll see what they have."

%ACT% Trent searches the dead navigator [6], dead engineer [2] and dead captain [4] and removes them from their chairs (so that they disappear and the people playing them are free again)

%ACT% Sorin keeps hacking away on the console

Sorin: "How the hell did we lose pressure? Each deck is divided into cells that automatically seal if there's a leak. And even if someone circumvented all safety measures, there's always the airlocks, two in the front, and two in the back. Surviving decompression is part of ERG's basic training."

Lyra: "So you're saying this massacre was intentional?"

Sorin: "I'm not saying anything right now."

Lyra: "Can we check the airlocks from here?"

Sorin: "Yeah, let's do that."

%ACT% Lyra walks over to Sorin [4] to look at his screen

%VID% Several surveillance camera images flicker across the screens, various hallways, rooms, then the first airlock

Sorin: "There we go ... what the ..."

Lyra: "What is it?"

Sorin: "The outer hatch is open."

Sorin: "The second one, too."

Lyra: "Could this be how the ship was vented?"

Sorin: "Unlikely. There's no way you can remotely open both sides."

%VID% Screen shows the inside of an airlock filled with survivors

%ACT% Trent looks up and starts walking towards Sorin and Lyra, **standing between them**.

Lyra: "Woah!"

Sorin: "Now lookie there ..."

Lyra: "Survivors!"

Sorin: "Airlock 4, let's go!"

Trent: "Not so fast!"

Sorin: "What? Why not?"

%ACT% Trent holds up a taser gun

Trent: "Because I say so!"

%ACT% Trent shoots Sorin

Sorin: "HAGARBL!"

%ACT% Sorin falls over, out of view

Lyra (panicked): "Computer, blacklist Trent Binkin from all access!"

%SND% PRE-1200b - Computer: "Affirmative."

%ACT% Trent points the taser at Lyra

Lyra: "Shoot me, and you'll die a very lonely death on this ship! Put the taser down and we can talk."

Trent: "Holy shit, you've got your wits together, girl!"

Lyra: "You did all this, am I right? You killed the crew!"

Trent: "Shut up, or else!"

Lyra: "Or else what? Without me you're not going to get this ship anywhere!"

Trent: "An neither are you. Because I have the key card."

%ACT% Trent holds up the key card

Lyra: "I thought so. And what now?"

Trent: "Maybe the card alone doesn't let me fly this ship, but in all other aspects it's still pretty much the backstage pass for this gig. Airlock security is still off. All I have to do is to flick this in front of a terminal, and those survivors are gone. Do you want that?"

Lyra: "Woah, woah, woah! Let's take it down a notch, shall we?"

Trent: "You have exactly 5 seconds to make me the captain. 5 ... 4 ..."

Lyra: "Hold it! We are a bunch of convicted criminals on our way to the prison camp on Vesta! We don't care about your business! We just want to get out of here alive!"

Trent: "Shut up. 3 ... 2 ... 1..."

Lyra: "Alright, alright! For fuck's sake! Computer? Transfer captain's privileges to Trent Binkin!"

%SND% PRE-1201 - Computer: "Complying. Trent Binkin is now the Captain."

Trent: "Thank you, my dear. Computer? Vent Airlock 4."

%SND% PRE-1202 - Computer: "Affirmative."

Lyra: "NO!"

%VID% The outer hatch opens, and the survivors get sucked outside

%ACT% Trent laughs

Lyra: "YOU SON OF A BITCH! YOU MURDERED THEM! YOU FUCKING MURDERED THEM!"

%ACT% Lyra jumps at Trent, trying to attack him.

%ACT% Trent fires the taser gun

%SND% SND-1209 - SPRATZ!

Lyra: "HA-GNF!"

%ACT% Lyra falls from view

Trent: "Pro Tip: Don't jump at the guy with the gun!"

%ACT% Sorin appears from behind one of the chairs, with a huge wrench, and hits Trent over the helmet.

%SND% SND-1210 - Bonk!
%MUS% MUS-1208 - Music Cue 8

%ACT% Trent gets thrown around by the force

Trent: "AAAAH!"

%ACT% Sorin hits him again

%SND% SND-1211 - Bonk!

%HND% The air hose detaches from Trent's helmet

%SND% SND-121 (cont.) HISSSSSSSS

%FOG% A small fountain of fog shoots form his helmet to visualize the air escaping

Trent: "*GASP* *COUGH* MY HELMET! I ... CANT ... BREATHE ... AAaaaah!"

%ACT% Trent panics and flails around like a headless chicken

%ACT% Trent fires the taser gun in arbitrary directions

Sorin: "I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE YOU NOW! DROP THE GODDAMN STUN GUN! DROP IT! DROP IT! DROP IT!"

%ACT% Trent throws the gun away.

%SND% SND-1211B - Gun Drops

Sorin: "Pro Tip: Don't expect a taser to work very well through a space suit!"

%ACT% Sorin grabs Trent, puts him in the unoccupied engineer's seat [2], and restrains him there with a roll of duct tape.

%SND% SND-1212 - Tape

%ACT% Trent gasps and wheezes and coughs while he's slowly suffocating

%ACT% Lyra slowly gets up, moaning

Lyra: "Shit ... that really ... really ... hurt ..."

%ACT% Trent spasms and struggles for a moment, then goes limp

Sorin: "Are you alright?"

Lyra: "Yeah, I think so."

%SND% PRE-1203 - Computer: "Captain Trent Binkin incapacitated. Transferring Captain's rights to Lyra Senick according to emergency protocols."

Sorin: "Today's your lucky day, Trent. Enough people have died on this ship already."

%ACT% Sorin re-attaches the hose to Trent's helmet

%SND% SND-1213 - Air Leak Ends
%SND% SND-1210 FADE

%ACT% Trent breathes and gasps for air as he slowly regains consciousness.

%ACT% Lyra grabs the key card from Trent and holds it up

Lyra: "So here's that goddamn keycard. Computer, complete authorization!"

%SND% PRE-1204 - Computer: "Please scan the flight crew override key."

%MUS% MUS-1209 - Music Cue 9

%ACT% Lyra swipes the card at the main terminal [4]

%SND% SND-1214 - Scan Card
%SND% PRE-1205 - Computer: "Authorization confirmed. Bridge controls unlocked."

Sorin: "FINALLY!"

%ACT% Sorin pushes Lyra aside, hacking away at the keyboard

%AMB% AMB-1202 - Ship Energized
%AMB% AMB-1201 FADE

Sorin: "First we're gonna power this baby back up. Reactor ready in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ..."

%LIG% LX 1220 - Turn on lights with full brightness

%SND% SND-1215 - Lots of machines powering on

Sorin: "And now, let's see if we have enough air to get at least this section re-pressurized ..."

%SND% SND-1216 - Air hissing

%ACT% Sorin takes his helmet off, and takes a deep breath

%MIX% Eisfuchs: Helmet -> Clean

Sorin: "Ahhhhh! And now, let's get this thing to Juno station before Earth notices we're missing ... time to strap in!"

Lyra: "Hey, wait a minute! I'm the captain of this ship!"

%ACT% Lyra removes her helmet

%MIX% Pan: Helmet -> Clean

Sorin: "You're what?"

Lyra: "Computer, who is the captain?"

%SND% PRE-1206 - Computer: "Captain on duty is Lyra Senick."

Sorin: "Ooooh. Oh, i see. Well then ..."

%ACT% Sorin sits down in the navigator's spot [6]

Sorin: "Tell me what to do, Miss Captain."

Lyra: "Hah!"

%ACT% Lyra sits down in the captain's chair [4]

Lyra: "Mr. Sorin Jax? ENERGIZE!"

%ACT% Lyra points forward

Sorin (Facepalms): "This is not how ANY of this works ...."

Lyra: "Lighten up, it was a joke! Computer? Grant full pilot's and navigation rights to Mr. Sorin Jax."

%SND% PRE-1207 - Computer: "Affirmative."

Sorin: "Thank you. Now, fasten your seat belts everyone this is going to be a high-g burn! Standby for acceleration in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ..."

%ACT% Sorin pushes a button at the navigator's armrest console

%SND% SND-1218 - Full Throttle

%HND% Everything that is not bolted down (guns, dead bodies, paper trash, empty pizza boxes, helmets) flies off towards the backdrop

Sorin: "Yeeeehhhaaaaaaaawwwww!"
